What are lingual braces?
Lingual braces use the same technology as traditional braces. However, instead of affixing metal brackets to the front of your teeth, we will place a smaller bracket on the inside surface of your tooth. Metal brackets and archwires then work together to pull your teeth gently into position.
Are lingual braces right for me?
Lingual braces allow patients to straighten their teeth without any visible brackets, archwires, or trays. Though you can’t see the treatment, you will experience visible results. Depending on the severity of their dental issues, adults, teens, and children are all suitable candidates for hidden lingual braces.
The first step is to understand your individual smile needs. All our bespoke treatments start with a professional assessment of your teeth and jaws. During your consultation at Royston Dental Care, our experienced team will carefully evaluate your smile, take digital images, and propose a customised treatment plan.
What are the benefits of lingual braces?
Our patients enjoy ceramic braces for many reasons, including:
- Completely hidden brackets and archwires
- Suitable for most dental issues
- Reliable treatment results

FAQs about lingual braces
Orthodontic treatment times vary from person to person and greatly depend on the health and position of your teeth prior to treatment. We will work with you to create a custom treatment plan that helps you achieve your desired results in as little time as possible. Some patients see notable results after just a few months, while others notice the changes later in their treatment plan.
Compared to traditional metal braces, lingual braces may, at times, take slightly longer to straighten teeth. However, many patients at Royston Dental Care experience comparable treatment times. Others find that the benefits of hidden lingual braces outweigh the downsides.
All orthodontic treatments require a short adjustment period. With lingual braces, we affix the brackets to the inner side of your tooth, nearest your tongue. This means you may initially notice the brackets more while talking and eating. Most patients report losing their lisp and even forgetting about their braces after just a few weeks or within the first month.
